Ready to be Intimidated?

Kings Dominion, Doswell, Virginia, made a big announcement today, like really big. New for 2010 at the theme park is Intimidator 305, a brand new Intamin Giga roller coaster.

Scheduled to open April of 2010, the steel coaster will stand 305 ft. tall and feature a 300 ft. drop at 85 degrees. After hitting 92 m.p.h. on that first drop the ride will scream along 5,100 feet of bright red track on yellow supports.

The ride takes it's name from the famous NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, known as the Intimidator, and the ride's top height. It will carry a loose racing theme and stand in a presently open area next to the Anaconda roller coaster.

The ride's actual track looks to have only one significant hill after the lift, and the rest of the ride stays low to the ground with speed turns and tight directional transitions. The two, 32 passenger trains will allow for a theoretical hourly capacity of over 1,300 riders, but seem to feature over the shoulder restraints. Also of note is the fact that the lift hill features only two supports, with most of the track supported by a new reinforced style of track.

The park has launched a great mini-site for the ride, on which you can see lots of images and videos of the ride.
